I Volunteer as Tribute! As Long as You'll Send Pizza...

I recently realized that there are a few things that I really crave from the USA, specifically food. These strange hankerings have given me an insight into what study abroad truly is: the Hunger Games! Well, that is if the Hunger Games were non-lethal, amusing intellectual trips to amazing places... In a non-dystopian world...

Okay, perhaps study abroad isn't very similar to the Hunger Games, but there is one big parallel; just like Katniss in the Hunger Games, (note how I have cast myself as Jennifer Lawrence. That's right.) I am thirsting for some goodies from the outside world. Of course, in my case I am not yearning for life-saving medication, and rather for little treats... I think the comparison is close enough! You see, if Katniss were in my shoes right now, I believe she would be lusting for approximately the same goodies I find myself fancying right now.

On that note, I thought I might make a little list of 'Sponsor Gifts' that I think I would recieve if study abroad were the Hunger Games!

  • Glass Nickel Pizza
  • PB&J sandwhiches
  • Snickers
  • Mini M&Ms
  • Ramen
  • Fried Chicken

I find it quite ironic that, while I am literally surrounded by crème brûlées and chocolate tartes, I am daydreaming about stuffed crust pizza. Conveniently enough, I am preparing an American meal for the Girards on Saturday and, selflessly, I have incorporated fried chicken into the menu... What a coincidence! I am also in the convenient position of having my dearest mother sending me a care package (I prefer the term 'Sponsor Gift'!) full of Snickers. I have a sneaking suspicion that when the box arrives I will begin to reenact the entire 20th chapter* of the Hunger Games, much to the confusion of Hédé. Because obviously I am Jennifer Lawrence. And dating Josh Hutcherson.

Don't worry Josh, the Snickers will be here soon!

*In case you don't have the entire Hunger Games memorized (or in case you haven't recently sparknotes the book, as I have just done...), chapter 20 is when Haymitch sends Katniss and Peeta medicine for Peeta's injured leg.

  1. The package DOES have snickers, but I didn't know about the mini M&Ms. Sorry! I'm surprised you're not craving tuna salad and popovers. I am going through tuna-salad-and-popover-withdrawal because you're the only other person who LIKES that besides me!
